The Highgate Board and Committees need your support!
Highgate is managed by a Board of seven Directors and a number of committees. For the last few years the same 10-12 people have been doing all the work of managing the community. Several Board members are doubling as committee chairs. But the community consists of roughly 150 homeowners and 20 or so absentee landlords. The Board needs more homeowners and their family members to step up to support the community. The motive for this announcement is to gather more support for the dozen people who are now doing all the work, and to lighten the load on the FirstService Residential representative Austin Figueroa, whom we have been imposing on with obligations that really belong on us as homeowners.
The following is a list of the various committees and needs of the community:
The Board is looking to fill an empty slot on the Board of Directors. Almost all the current directors have full-time jobs. The board is looking for someone either retired or working from home with the ability to have several hours a week free to jump in and help with Board issues. Please contact me (gm-highgate@verizon.net) if you are interested. For supporting a committee, contact the committee chair.
The Landscape Committee (Chair Nils (Bear) Warga: nilswarga@hotmail.com) has a chairman but no other members. If you’re interested in plants and in the appearance of the common areas, two or more volunteers would be welcome.
The Architectural Review Committee (Chair David Hudson: zzi2012@yahoo.com) is required by the Covenants to have three or more members and at least one new member is needed. This requires a few hours once a year spent in surveying the neighborhood, and in supporting the chairman in reviewing requests for architectural changes made by homeowners.
The Information Committee (Contact me or Austin Figueroa: austin.figueroa@fsresidential.com) needs probably two people to help manage the new Highgate website, keeping it up-to-date with notices of activities and in expanding the website’s other possibilities for supporting the community. These folks could be computer-literate high school or college students.
The Volunteer Committee (Chair Carroll Colley: carroll.colley@gmail.com) is responsible for looking for recruits to support the Board and committees. The current chairman is a dog walker and dog walkers might be useful members because they often stop and converse with other homeowners.
The Social Committee (Chair Nikki Stuart: nikkistuart1505@gmail.com) organizes 4-5 events a year. These are primarily social events, but includes the annual meetings when they are held live. This is another committee with a chair but no members.
